Fenwick High School President Col. Otto Rutt ‘79 has selected Katie Vanaria as the school’s next Vice President of Institutional Advancement, effective immediately. She has been serving as interim director of the department since August after three years working on the advancement team.
“I am extremely excited to have the opportunity to combine my passion for Catholic education with my background in campaign management. These are the kinds of challenges that foster collaboration and creativity, and the Fenwick community has an abundance of those resources,” said Vanaria, who is the first woman to serve in the role.
Vanaria’s 22-year career in development began with the Campaign for Duke University, a “transformative initiative” for the institution that raised more than $2.5 billion. She later spent more than eight years with the Heroes for Life campaign, which culminated in the construction of the Anne and Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago, one of the nation’s leading pediatric care facilities. It was the most lucrative campaign in the hospital’s development and stands among the most successful children’s health campaigns in U.S. history.
The Oak Park resident served for nine years as Director of Advancement for Ascension School and Parish, fostering growth in philanthropy and community engagement. As Vice President of Institutional Advancement for Fenwick, she will oversee fundraising campaigns, strategic partnerships and alumni engagement.
“Katie brings a uniquely expert level of knowledge and experience to Fenwick's development and advancement mission,” Col. Rut said. “Dedication is a keynote quality of her team; they are always going the extra mile, and beyond, to ensure success for all the parties involved.”
The proud parent of a Fenwick junior, Vanaria has a “deep understanding of development and a passion for Catholic education,” she said. “I am committed to strengthening Fenwick’s resources and expanding its impact. I am honored to build on Fenwick’s strong foundation and collaborate with our alumni, parents and supporters to ensure a bright future for our students.”
